Sweet Freedom
Sweet Freedom is a sweetening syrup made from apples, grapes and carob. It has a low glycaemic load and it has 25% fewer calories than ordinary sugar.
I use it whenever I need a more syrupy kind of sweetener in my recipes. It’s an excellent substitute for honey, and in fact, it’s the bestselling vegan honey alternative in the UK.
Currently, there are two kinds of Sweet Freedom available (there will soon be a third one: chocolate!):
- The milder tasting one is Sweet Freedom Original. This is what I normally use in my baking.
- The stronger tasting one is Sweet Freedom Dark. This is more suitable when you need a more syrupy flavour.
Both kinds come in squeezable bottles and are therefore easy to use.
Sweet Freedom is a UK-based product. You can find it in Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda and Booths. If you live outside the UK, you can order it via Britstore. If you don’t want to use it when following one of my recipes, feel free to use agave nectar or runny honey instead.
